Written by Ms. Confuse on Sunday, April 13, 2008Would is a female coupler work for connecting two CAT5e ethernet cables? Yes, you should be able to join two CAT5e cables with a female coupler. How to know if you need male or female? Think literally. The male end has the 'plug' and the female has the 'socket' into which the male plugs. Another way to think about it: Male has a plug, and female has the hole. That applies to anything electronic (stereos, video cables, networking, you name it).. So if you have two male ends that you need to connect, you put a female coupler (has two female sides) between them....
Side note: couplers are also refered to as 'gender-benders' because when you plug a wire into one side of it, that wire changes its 'gender.'
