Gloves, weight still unsure - Roach

Aside from the revenue split, the size of gloves and the fight weight need to be ironed out before the Oscar De La Hoya - Manny Pacquiao fight gets off the ground, according to the Filipino champion's trainer Freddie Roach.
Roach said De La Hya wanted to fight at 151 lb, not at 147 lb which Pacquiao handlers desired. The famous trainer also said the camps will have to agree on the size of the gloves as Pacquiao wanted an eight-once mitts to muster all the power he needs against De La Hoya, who at 5-foot-10 has a four-inch advantage in height and six-inch edge in reach. Other sources said De La Hoya's camp wanted the fight a 151 lb so that Pacquiao won't be able to use the eight-once gloves mandated by the Nevada State Athletic Commision, which sanctions boxing fights in Las Vegas. The state rules that only light-weight and welterweight fighters could either use eight or 10-ounce gloves, a recent ammendment reportedly used to attract crowds in the bout between welterweights Miguel Cotto and Antonio Margarito last month.
He also expressed confidence taht his famous ward will be beat De La Hoya, judging from the fighter's recent performances. "If De La Hoya couldn't stop Steve Forbes and with how eaily Forbes hit Oscar, imagine what Manny is going to do with him," said Roach. De La Hoya defeated Forbes via unanumous decision last May. Pacquiao, the reigning World Boxing Council lightweight (135lb) is expeccting back Monday from Beijing where he served as flag bearer for the RP Olympic contingent in Friday's opening ceremony. Earlier in the week, Manny's promoter Bob Arum and Richard Schaefer of De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions failed to agree on how to split the revenues for the proposed mega-fight.
