Filipino American Benefits Hinges on passing of Senate Bill

Written by Ms. Confuse on Friday, September 05, 2008

Washington DC,April 24, 2007, the US Senate passed S.1315 by a vote of 96-1 and went on to US Congress for deliberation. The House is in August recess through Labor Day. It is hoped that the House vote on S.1315 when session resumes from Sept. 6 -26. If it is not passed, then it might be buried by the presidential campaigning.S.1315 is the VETERANS' BENEFITS ENHANCEMENT ACT. The bill is intended for all U.S. veterans, and among others, it enhances veterans' insurance and housing benefits and improves benefits and services for transitioning service members. What is important to our Filipino Veterans is that PART OF THIS OMNIBUS BILL that corrects the injustice to Filipino WW2 veterans by PROVIDING BENEFITS TO WW2 FILVETS IN THE U.S. AND IN THE PHILIPPINES. It will not reduce benefits for other veterans. Once it passes the House, it will go to the President for his signature.

The community must make doubly sure our US Representatives support S.1315 and will not allow amendments that will strip it of the benefits for our WW2 FilVets. Ways of getting their confirmation is to personally or call or email and ask for their support. Confirm that they will vote Yes. Visit, call or email them repeatedly until they yield. If possible get their commitment in writing or in a photo op. Get your family involved, ask your friends to help. That is the only way we the community can make sure of enough votes to pass S.1315. Go to http://www3.capwiz.com/c-span/dbq/officials/ to get your U.S. Representative's contact information. Is there any other filvets bill under consideration? No. the U.S. Senate and house leadership are behind s.1315 and will not consider any other bill for filvets. this is a bipartisan bill.

This is a milestone test for our filam community. The few WW2 FilVets left alive cannot wait any longer. We are so close to getting this done. We must act now. Commonly known as nikky and was bestowed the nickname billyboxergirl by her close peers. Age is a myth for time knows no boundaries. Being the proud mommy she is, she wastes her days away trying to perfect the art of human anatomy.
