Iris Rañola wins Arizona Women's Billiard Tour
Written by Ms. Confuse on Sunday, September 07, 2008Filipino cue artist Iris Rañola won the Arizona Women’s Billiard Tour stop in Tucson, Arizona by beating Emily Wilmoth of the US. A report posted on BilliardPhilippines.com said the Zamboanga native scored 7-6 against Wilmoth and came out as the top winner among 26 competitors. National coach Boyet Asonto said the two pool players battled each other to a 4-4 tie before Wilmoth called for a break. When they returned, Wilmoth surged ahead by two racks.
Rañola bounced back to take the next three and won the game. The Filipino pocketed the $500 top prize. Rañola defeated American Michelle Micik, 7-3, on her way to the finals. Wilmoth also beat Micik, 7-4, to arrange a titular showdown with the Filipino. The Filipino is coming off a runner-up finish in this year's WPBA US Open 9-Ball before competing in Arizona.
