Larsen and Cabral of NCR

Dumaguete’s Wayne Larsen and Rachel Cabral of the National Capital Region (NCR) complete the Philippine men’s and women’s national recurve teams that will see action in the 3rd Asian Archery Grand Prix later this month at the Ateneo grounds. Larsen is the only non-NCR player in the men’s recurve team that is named by the National Archery Association of the Philippines (NAAP). Other members Florante Matan, Marvin Cordero, Paul dela Cruz, Neil Divinagracia and Zander Lee Reyes Cabral will be joined by Joann Tabanag and Marie Cabral in an all-NCR women’s recurve team, which was finalized by the NAAP in time for the October 25 to 31 Grand Prix. In the compound event, the men’s team is be made up of NCR’s Earl Yap, Kit Cojuangco, Cristian Cubilla, Fermin Barrenechea and Jorge Vargas, and Cebu’s Dondon Sombrio. The women’s squad will have a mixed group composed of national team mainstay Jennifer Chan of Dumaguete, Bacolod bet Arlene Infante, NCR’s Abigail Tindugan, and Kristin Bismark and Quinnie Cabuguason of Gandiva Sports.
They have a very competitive team that they sure will contend for honors not only in the Southeast Asian Championship but also in the Asian Grand Prix. The NAAP came out with the final RP team roster after the second leg of the qualifying event at the Philsports Complex in Pasig City. Both recurve and compound teams will undergo extensive training under Korean coach Won Tae, who is a former Olympian. Eleven countries have so far confirmed of sending teams in the Grand Prix and the Southeast Asian Championship. The teams are Chinese-Taipei, Bhutan, Qatar, Mongolia, Thailand, Myanmar, China, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Iran and North Korea. The NAAP has also extended the deadline to give the other interested countries to submit their respective line ups in the dual event.
