FilAm kids, 10-yearold Jaryd Farcon and eight-year-old Cara Abaya Campos performed the popular ballroom dance step the chacha to tthe music of Bruce Channel's Hey! Baby in front of millions of viewers on ABC's hit dance.

In their one-minute dance set, these pintsized ballroom dancers strutted their stuff with rapid hip movement, splits, and exaggerated facial impressions, a must in every ballroom dancer's arsenal Afterwards, all three judges were impressed by the performance and asked the young couple to come back.

"Jaryd, your hip action," said Judge Bruno Tonioli. "You could teach some of our professionals." "Cara, you're only eight years old and you're dancing like a 40-year-old hot mama," added Judge Carrie Ann Inaba

"Sharp, crisp leg action, fabulous hips, beautiful Cuban break, the whole package It was fantastic," said head Judge Len Goodman after the performance.

These kids are not your ordinary elementary school students. During the past year, Jaryd and Cara have performed on NBC's Today Show and won talk show hosts Maury Pvich's "Most Talented Kids" competition.

Jaryd and Cara both from the East Coast have been dancing together for more than a year. They have been compeing in national and international competitions, according to Cara's mom Irene Campos, who recently spoke with the Asian Journal about their accomplishments.

Irene said that since the two young kids have been performing together they've won first or second place in a number of competitions in their divisions. This year alone, Cara and Jaryd have won two second place trophies in the USA Dance Championships Nationals, 1st Place in the Teddy Bear - JIVE division at the Le Clasique in Montreal, Canada; and a first and second place award in the Manhattan Dancesport Regional in New York.

"I'm so proud of these kids," said Irene. "They really work hard and compete to be the best." the Dancing with the Stars Junior 10-and-under age group competition began this year. During last Tuesday's competition, Jaryd and Cara bested their opponent 10-year-old Dmitriy Slobodskiy and Michelle Kaplansky for a chance to come back again

ABC Dancing with the Stars producers have asked the young FilAm couple to perform again on the show sometime in May, according to Irene.

eat more?

Written by Ms. Confuse on Tuesday, April 29, 2008

Whenever you are trying to lose weight, you should concentrate on these three things which all work together in providing a healthier and quicker weight loss goal for yourself. I have found this combination really successful in my weight loss plans. The first thing is exercising and how much you can put forth into it. The more you exercise, the more results you will see. The next thing is dieting and the calorie intake. If you exercise more, technically you could eat more? Always watch what you eat.

Now the last step in a good weight loss plan is always a good diet pills that can help you get to the end of the road. I have found diet pills which is a natural herbal diet pill to be the best around. It's an appetite suppressant along with being a fat blocker which stops up to 28% of fat you eat. . diet pills really works well with exercising which gives you plenty of energy to perform. Along with that your diet will be affected by diet pills due to the appetite suppressant and fat blocker. If you slip up on meals, the fat blocker kicks in. It's really great to stop food cravings.

Pacquaio Joins World's Super Athletes in Nike Ad

Written by Ms. Confuse on Monday, April 28, 2008

Manny Pacquiao has scored another knockout! In his first international commercial and third NIKE TV ad entitled Sports Training, Pac-Man is shown with the world’s super athletes - Kobe Bryant, Cristiano Ronaldo, Roger Federer, Maria Sharapova, and Xiang Liu.

Manny’s longtime coach Freddie Roach said that Nike Sports selected 10 of the top athletes in the world to be a part of their sports training commercial, Pacquiao included. It was filmed in Roach’s Wild Card Gym in California.

Pacquiao is the first Filipino NIKE endorser. He is the first Asian boxer to win three world titles in three different weight divisions (WBC and Ring Magazine Super Featherweight Champion, Former world champion at IBF Super Bantamweight, and WBC Flyweight divisions).

Manny first started endorsing NIKE in 2006 . His first TV ad for the Fortune 500 sports giant was entitled Ang Mamatay nang Dahil sa ‘Yo, a thematic take-off from the last line of the Philippines’ national anthem.

The second TV ad which came out several months ago is entitled “Fast Forward” and shows Manny’s routine training. The third ad, which just came out for release in HongKong and the Philippines, is the multi-athlete TV ad featuring Manny side by side with five of the world’s great athletes such as basketball superstar Kobe Bryant and tennis great Maria Sharapova.

A few weeks ago, Pacquiao announced that another Nike commercial will be released soon, this time featuring Golf Star Tiger Woods, NBA Superstar Kobe Bryant and The Pacman in one explosive commercial.

When Manny first signed his Nike contract two years ago, people were wondering how much he got paid for his endorsement. A member of Team Pacman grinned then and simply said “definitely everybody happy.” For sure, no one can be happier than The Pacman.

Lalaine Vergara-Paras FilAm Hollywood Celerity

Written by Ms. Confuse on Sunday, April 27, 2008

"I'm proud of my ethnicities and I will always be proud of being a Filipino".

BIO:
Lalaine Vergara-Paras (born June 3, 1987 in Burbank, California), also known as Lalaine, is an American actress, singer and spokesperson.

Personal life

Born to Filipino parents originally from Batangas and Pampanga Philippines, she grew up and currently lives in Los Angeles, California. She is the youngest of four siblings, Marian, Francisco and Cristina. She is of Filipino, Chinese and Spanish descent. In an interview, she stated, "People ask me, 'Are you Spanish?' ... "I say I have Spanish in me but I'm not just Spanish. I'm proud of my ethnicities and I will always be proud of being a Filipino". Lalaine is also involved in many charity events, such as the AIDS benefit concert and *NSYNC's challenge for the youth.

Acting career

Lalaine has recently finished acting as the lead in the new movie Royal Kill, also starring Academy Award nominees Eric Roberts and Pat Morita.

Lalaine is normally credited by her first name only. She is commonly known for playing the best friend, Miranda Sanchez on Disney Channel's Lizzie McGuire, alongside Hilary Duff. She reprised this role on the pilot of a spin-off series What's Stevie Thinking? about Miranda's younger sister, but this did not air in 2005 as originally expected and was scrapped because Disney Channel made Wizards of Waverly Place. Lalaine's acting career began when she was cast in the Broadway production of Les Miserables in the roles of Young Cosette and Eponine.

When Lalaine returned to California, she acted in several television commercials, including some for Microsoft and Burger King. She also worked in the play Brundibar. Lalaine's voice has been used for many movies, including Inspector Gadget and Lolita. She also played orphan "Kate" in the Wonderful World of Disney ABC-TV version of the movie Annie. She starred alongside AJ Trauth in the Disney Channel movie You Wish as "Abby." Lalaine portrayed "Chloe," a young Slayer-In-Training who commits suicide, on the TV-Series Buffy the Vampire Slayer. When the First Evil assumes her form, Lalaine plays the malevolent force. In 2004, Lalaine went to Philippines and made guest appearances on the GMA Network including the SOP Gigsters. She began hosting her own Filipino travel show Flipside, where she travels around the islands. She also promoted GMA Pinoy TV in San Francisco, California in 2005.

Music career

In 2003, Lalaine released her independent album, Inside Story. Lalaine wrote six songs on the album, including "Life Is Good", "Can't Stop", and "Save Myself". She has been working with Radio Disney, performing her songs in Southern California, and went to Hawaii with Disney's Imagineers. For six months Lalaine's song "You Wish", written for the movie of the same name, was in the Top 4 Radio Disney songs. She has signed a record deal with Warner Brother's Records. She performed on the last episode of All That. Her most recent single was "I'm Not Your Girl". The lyrics of the song, and the video itself, could be viewed as an attack on Hilary Duff's public image. In the video, Lalaine portrays herself and two girls in blonde wigs (both looking similar to Duff's character on Lizzie McGuire), and the lyrics speak of how Lalaine is not "someone who's quiet and polite, likes staying home on every Friday night." Duff had said in an interview with Blender magazine in 2006 that she is a quiet girl who likes staying home on Friday nights, and did not feel badly doing so while knowing that many other girls her age liked going out and partying. A few songs from her unreleased album Haunted have leaked. "I'm Not Your Girl" and "Did You Hear About Us?" were included on a physical single, and "Haunted", "Real Life", "No More", "Doing Just Fine", and "More Than Words Can Say" leaked onto the internet. Lalaine wrote her pop rock record with various writers including Glen Ballard, Oliver Leiber, Danielle Brisebois and others. Now, Lalaine is reworking her record rhythmically with producer J. R. Rotem , Outkast producer Rico Wade and songwriter Evan "Kidd" Bogart.

Anna Marie Perez De Tagle and Kara Crane

Written by Ms. Confuse on Friday, April 25, 2008

TWO Fil-Ams, Anna Maria Perez de Tagle and Kara Crane, are two of Disney Channel’s newest stars. The girls, both 17-year-olds, are featured in Disney channel made-for-TV movies—Perez de Tagle in the upcoming “Camp Rock” in June, and Crane in “Minutemen,” which premiered on Jan. 25 on the Disney channel.

Anna Maria Perez de Tagle
Anna Marisa, who besides starring in “Camp Rock” plays mean girl Ashley Dewitt on “Hannah Montana,” shared in an exclusive interview with Janelle So on “Kababayan L.A.” that she learned a lot about singing and acting through her famous grandmother, singer and actress Sylvia La Torre.
“”I’m very close to my grandma—she’s quite the icon in the Philippines,” laughed Anna Marisa.
“She taught me my first Filipino song “Bahay Kubo.” Whenever she’s on stage she says ‘Oh my apo, she’s following in my footsteps,’ and I can’t disagree. When it comes to singing and acting, I owe it all to her.”
Anna Marisa shared that despite her Hollywood career, her parents still raise her with conservative Filipino values and rules.
“Well, my parents say I can’t date until I’m 30!,” Ana Marisa joked.
“They always make me have a chaperone—my older brother’s always there. But he’s a cool brother, he’s not like one of those brothers who’s behind my back everywhere I go.”
But she did share that her parents are willing to compromise on certain things, such as spending time with her fellow Disney stars—but only to an extent.
“We go on group dates, you know with the Jonas Brothers (her co-stars in “Camp Rock”) or Zack Efron (star of Disney channel’s smash hit “High School Musical”)…but I can’t go out past 11 [p.m.] or anything like that.”
Yet Ana Marisa doesn’t mind her parents’ relatively strict dating rules, as she is completely focused on honing her singing and acting skills.
“If a guy were to ask me out, they would definitely have to know that I’m really focused on my career right now.”
She also enjoys the fame she has already received from playing Ashley on “Hannah Montana.”
“Little girls come up to me and say ‘You’re the girl from ‘Hannah Montana!,’” Ana Marisa laughed.
“Sometimes they even think I’m mean because I play a mean girl on the show, but I explain to them that it’s just acting. But I definitely love my fans!”
Anna Marisa clearly enjoys being part of the famous Disney channel family, its perks including hanging out with superstars like Zack Efron and the Jonas Brothers.
“They’re such nice guys,” Anna Marisa says about the Jonas Brothers.
“We actually filmed in a remote place in Canada where there was no cell phone reception and no Internet so we became really close.”
About watching her upcoming projects including “Camp Rock” set to come out in June, Anna Marisa had this to say to her fellow Filipinos.
“Filipinos please, please, please support me.”
“I’m really happy where I am and I love being in the Disney family.”

Kara Crane
Also in an exclusive interview with Janelle So on “Kababayan L.A.,” Kara Crane, who has a Filipina mother and a Russian father, talked about her already successful Disney film “Minutemen.”
“The film (“Minutemen”) got 7.3 million viewers and was the most watched program of the week so I’m really excited,” Kara said.
“In the movie, I play kind of like the sidekick of three boys. It was a nice part—I loved it so much.”
Kara, who has been acting and singing since she was 9 years old, shared that her road to acting all started with her love for theatre.
“I’ve always been involved in a lot of theatre—community theatre, shows at my school…I just love musicals and all that.”
“I auditioned for ‘The Sound of Music’ when I was nine-years-old and I got the role of Marta Von Trapp! Ever since then, I just loved it. It just escalated from there. I got an agent and we’ve been going out on auditions for the past couple of years.”
And although she doesn’t understand or speak Tagalog (her mother is from Zamboanga and speaks Chabacano), she is ready and willing to visit the Philippines.
“We’re actually planning a trip in August or September; we’re going to stay out there for maybe a month or so, I’m really excited!,” Kara said.
When asked if she was willing to try showbiz in the Philippines, Kara exclaims “I’d love to—it’d be awesome!”
Kara also shared that she is currently in a relationship.
“I do have a boyfriend. They (my parents) know about it!,” Kara laughed.
“He’s an actor, and we’ve been together a couple of months. I’m really happy,” she said.
During the exclusive interview, Kara’s mom Leslie commented on the challenges of raising a daughter in the entertainment industry.
“It’s hard, but they’re all good kids,” Leslie said.
“All you have to do is you just have to discipline them.”
When asked by Janelle if she ever had to palo her kids, Leslie laughed, “Of course!”
As for upcoming projects, Kara shared that despite the writers’ strike slowing Hollywood down, she is optimistic about future movie roles.
“I’ve been having a lot of movie auditions lately—hopefully something good will happen,” she said.
As for other young Fil-Ams trying to make it in U.S. showbiz, Kara had this advice.
“Just follow your heart, I wanna say,” she said. “If you think you can do it, you can. You can accomplish anything you put your mind to. So if you really want it, you’ll get it.”

looking for the wine of the month clubs ?Some places are all uptight about delivering wine. If thing are good where you live, then I would look for a wine store (not a liquor store). They all have wine clubs. They usually have some plus for members like discounts on wine and special parties.

The problem with wine clubs is they need to choose wines that have a large quantity available and this may not be the best wine available. Example: Only 10 case of a particular wine is available. That will not be enough as customers will want to go back and buy more. Wine clubs will not choose this wine.

Grace G. Gupana: Maker of the world's largest flag

Written by Ms. Confuse on Thursday, April 24, 2008

While the world’s largest flag may not be that of the Philippines, a Filipino woman is behind it.

Grace Galindez Gupana, founder of a Christian charismatic group that claims global reach, takes pride in setting two Guinness World records for the world’s largest flag and the world’s largest banner this year.Gupana, who once worked as a sago’t gulaman vendor at the Quezon City Hall grounds, is the only Filipino so far who has managed to get two world records and the only woman who set those feats in less than 30 days apart.

She was behind the blue and white Israeli flag that was unfurled last November in Masada, Israel. It measured 18,847 square meters (about the size of two football fields) while tipping the scale at 5.2 metric tons; upstaging the previous record of the US flag in 1996 which was at 11,964 square meters. The second largest flag of the world, the Philippine flag, was smaller by less than 30 square meters (18,818).

She originally wanted the two flags to have the same size. However, in 2006 the Philippine flag was ripped after strong gusts of wind tore the 200 by 100 meter-flag (A similar fate happened to Indonesia when its flag was unrolled on a building in 2003).Less than 30 days later, she went to Israel, unfurled a new Philippine flag and the Israeli flag and sew them together with the North Korean and South Korean flags and miniature flags of 180 other recognized United Nations members, spanning 54,451 square meters.

Gupana called it the “777 Yahweh’s Banner" which, she said, does not only highlight the four highly christianized countries in Asia but also gave overseas based Filipinos a new source of pride.“We usually had a hard time at the airport in Israel since we were Filipinos. But when they saw in the news what we did, they were in awe. They let us through. Wherever we go, we were praised," said Noel Luna, who accompanied Gupana to Israel. For her, this was the product of her work which she dedicated to God.“You treat my people as you respect your brother," Gupana recalled telling Israeli officials during the Guinness stamping of the world’s largest flag.“[Filipinos] are now respected [in Israel]," said Noel, “[Before,] Filipinos occupied a different elevator."

A difficult task

The unfurling of the world’s largest flag was not in any measure a small undertaking.

From the Philippines, the two flags were shipped to Israel and brought to the foot of the ancient Jewish fortress in Masada, all expenses shouldered by Gupana.

Salty winds from the Dead Sea constantly swept across the desert, carrying sand and dust to more than 40 volunteers—including Filipino caregivers and 400 Arabs and Jews—under the scorching November afternoon sun.

Gupana said she chose the venue in Israel, as well as the choice of flags, to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Israel’s victory in the six-day war; the 50th anniversary of the Israel-RP relations and the centennial of the Christian revival in Korea. But before going to Israel, Gupana said she received a “tall order from God" one day while she was contemplating on her life on top of her seven-storey building in Quezon City.“It came in thunder and lightning. God said I needed to raise the standard of his people to raise his own standard," Gupana told GMANews.TV in an interview.

So, for the next few months, she defied her husband’s wishes and started to finance the making of the largest Philippine flag in August 26, 2006.One month, two artists, 10 seamstresses, and 3,772 kilograms of materials later, the flag was done.“I got depressed when the flag was torn apart. I cried. But I guess God was giving me a sign," Gupana said.Instead of being swallowed up by her disappointment, she was back on the drawing board and planning a grander project. She thought of making the Israeli flag instead since it was “God’s country."
Gupana admits her struggles in making the flags seemed to parallel her own battle in life—filled with big dreams, frustrations, and a lot of faith.

Graceful life

Despite earning a secretarial diploma at the Philippine Women’s University in 1982, Gupana failed to get a job for a year.

Armed only with 800 pesos in her pocket, she went to Divisoria, bought pieces of colorful paper, some cartolina, then locked herself in her room, and for days labored in making cards with inscribed biblical verses.

She then regularly hawked her handmade crafts to bookstores around Manila, ensuring that she was the only supplier in the city.

After much hard work and perseverance, Gupana had her own Christian bookstore by the end of the year.

Easy come, easy go

Gupana was an instant millionaire at the end of the 1980s, owning four businesses—including a restaurant and a flower shop—three vehicles, and one factory. But success was also quick to get into her head.“I got instantly drowned by my own success. I began to get bitter towards my family, who only provided me little support with my education before," she said.In 1991, Gupana’s life had a 180 degree spin. She gave birth to premature twins who had to be kept in incubators. Her hospital bills reached P25, 000 a day, making her bankrupt after three months.

From a self-made millionaire, Gupana returned to spartan life, this time, with more mouths to feed.“I found myself back where I started. I got so depressed. With my boastfulness, it was all gone," she said.In that period, she went through deep introspection, resolved her issues with her family and eventually found herself getting closer to God.“God seemed to tell me that I needed to go back to my senses. Go back to where I came from," said Grace.

Again with P800 in her hand, she bought ingredients for sago’t gulaman and sold it outside the Quezon City Hall. By nightfall, her money grew to over P2,000.From there, she added fish balls and rice porridge, and treated her customers well. After some time, she extended her business to food carts, and became popular among the city hall employees.Eventually, through sheer hard work and determination, she worked her way up. She was invited to conduct livelihood programs and even got invitations to travel abroad.

Looking ahead

As an act of generosity, Gupana donated the world’s largest flag to the government of Israeli, where she was told it would be unfurled every December 25.

Gupana was also honored by the Israel and Philippine governments for her feat. She will be flying back to Israel in March to receive an award.

For now, she said she won’t be making anymore world records, and instead promote tourism and bilateral relations between Israel and the Philippines.

“The flag is my testament to the message I received from God and I hope that in this way I can also promote tourism in Israel," she said.

Harvey Tolibao: Promdi artist destined for the stars

Written by Ms. Confuse on Wednesday, April 23, 2008

Harvey Tolibao always knew his life was destined for the stars.

True enough, this 26-year-old proud ‘probinsyano’ artist from Mindanao is the force behind the Star Wars comic book series, inking three issues of the phenomenal George Lucas creation since 2006. His work has been praised in the mainstream comics industry and is now among the growing Pinoy force in the US comics.
“Ang mga dayuhan ay hanga talaga sa mga Pinoy (Foreigners are awed by Filipinos)," Harvey told GMANews.TV.

“From boxing to billiards mayroon talaga palagi ma-i-prove ang mga Pinoy. Pero sa pagiging artist humanga din sila dahil bihira lang ang nakakapasok sa comics industry (From boxing to billiards, Filipinos have already proven something. But as artists, they become more impressed since it’s not very common for Filipinos to break into the comics industry)," he added.

Since being featured in QTV-11’s Review Philippines, Harvey has been receiving a lot of attention as one of the new breed of mainstream comic illustrators which used to be an elusive dream for many aspiring Filipinos and Asians in general before the 1970s.“Because of the skill and talent we have shown abroad, I am always proud of waving our flag and saying, Pinoy Ako!" he beamed.

Despite being known for his work on Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (issue 12), Harvey’s pride and glory is the fact that he was able send his two sisters through college. He is also taking care of his younger brother’s education at the Far Eastern University of the Philippines, taking up Fine Arts, majoring in Advertising.

Currently, Harvey has been very busy working on other comic book projects; in fact, he just squeezed the little time left for himself for this interview.“It’s really important for me to follow through with the deadlines otherwise I might just wake up next day without the job," he jokingly said.

Hard life

Harvey grew up in Malaybalay City, an urban district in the province of Bukidnon in the southern Philippines more popular for its long stretch of pineapple farms than its hidden pool of talented comic illustrators. But this didn’t mean people there have not heard of comics. In fact, Harvey attested that most of them would spend their idle time leisurely reading the local ‘Komiks.’

Noticing how people were entertained by reading komiks, Harvey began to collect and copy the drawings. Like many gifted yet underprivileged artists like him, Harvey did not have formal training in the arts and just learned the ropes through constant imitation and perfection of his craft.

He also admits to have been a fan of the Star Wars movies.

“It was my dream to work on comics since grade school but living in [Bukidnon] where I was born, comics was impossible to work for," he said in an interview.
For Harvey, it was just natural to be involved in the arts; after all, his father drew the huge film advertisements in cinema houses that replicated the movie posters in the absence of modern tarpaulin printers. But his father warned him that artists like him often go hungry.

“Sinasabi n'ya palagi sa aming magkakapatid na mahirap ang buhay ng isang artist, nasa bawat isa ang desisyon kung ano ang gusto mong gawin sa iyong buhay
(My father always tells us that an artist’s life is never easy. It’s an individual’s choice what to do in life)," he revealed to GMANews.TV.

Instead of being discouraged, Harvey became more determined to go for his dream and carve a name in the mainstream comics industry.

Shooting for the ‘Stars’

In college, Harvey went to the “Queen City of the South" and pursued a course in Information Technology at the Cebu Institute of Technology. Faced with financial constraints, he was only able to study for three years. Determined to succeed, he tried his luck and did jobs as a tattoo artist and furniture designer.

Two years after staying in Cebu City, he found his way to Manila and became a web designer and messenger. It was there, Harvey revealed, that he found a way to contact the person in-charge of the Glass House Graphics (GHG) Inc. in Asia.

After showing his portfolio to the people of GHG, they prodded him to attend a comics seminar. But Harvey didn’t have enough money to participate in it. Instead he waited for the event to finish, get a chance to go inside the venue and finally show his portfolio to the group of another notable Pinoy artist, Stephen Segovia.

It was Stephen who then introduced the young Harvey to Dave Campiti, the founder of GHG, an international agency for illustrators, writers, painters, and digital designers.

Impressed by his skill, Stephen employed Harvey to be his assistant artist on “Tokyo Knights" for Topcow. Since then his projects never ceased and soon he was drawing the background of Carlo Pagulayan’s “Emma Frost," “Unlimited X-Men," “Fantastic Four “and “Planet Hulk."

He also assisted other comic illustrators like Noah Salonga (“Red Sonja"), Lui Antonio (“Lightning Kiss" and “Warhammer"), Ariel Padilla (“Maze Agency" and “TOMOE") and Roy Allan Martinez (“Son of M") for Marvel comics.

Soon after, Harvey was commissioned to be the penciller of the new Star Wars comic series, a dream come true for this true-blue probinsyano. Through sheer hard work and determination, Harvey proved to himself that you can shoot for the stars and reach them at the same time.

“We all have our dreams in life but it’s up to you to find a way and reach them. The real lesson in life is that you don’t step on other people when you’re pursuing your goals. One day you’ll reach it and if you do, you have you’re whole life to cherish it," he said.

Harvey had just had just recently finished working on another project, “Ironman: Agent of Shield Annual" and enjoys waking up in the morning knowing that his passion in life also happens to be his day job at home.

Seven Days: Pinoy band gaining popularity in China

Written by Ms. Confuse on Tuesday, April 22, 2008

While Seven Days is yet to ring a bell in the local music industry, the group has been making waves in China, especially after having been the only Pinoy band invited to perform on Chinese national television for a Spring Festival program on February 7.

Seven Days, as its name suggests, is a band with seven members: vocalists, Ace Llorente, 27, Jennifer Rosal, 24, and Honey Alba, 19; guitarist Ariel Pambid, 29; bassist Allan Oliva, 27; drummer Moses Domingo, 29; and keyboardist Ronnie ‘Onnie’ Castillo, 30, also the band’s leader. While alluding to the Lord’s holy days of work (and rest), Onnie explained that the band’s name is really a reinforcement of one ofthe group’s core values.
Formed in 2001, under the name “Zinjy," Seven Days is an “any day band," prepared to perform onstage with its compelling fusion of rock and R&B.
“People say we were better than the original singers of the songs we cover," Onnie told in an interview.
And after performing in Yanji City’s Yanbian TV, it appears that Onnie’s boast has a ring of truth, at least in the Asian music scene where Pinoy talent has been unparalleled for years.

Pinoy support

The group never imagined it would land on Chinese television first than in the Philippines.“We’re glad our dream to perform for television viewers was fulfilled," said Honey, “But we would be happier if we performed on Philippine television."
Jennifer, who was plucked by Onnie after winning a local karaoke TV singing competition here (before Ethel Booba), is doubly glad with the overwhelming Pinoy support for Seven Days, especially since most Filipinos abroad are more discerning with homegrown talents.“Pinoys are harder to please. So an applause from them only confirms that you’re really good."

Last September, the group flew to China for a regular gig in one of the clubs there. After being noticed for its soulful and electrifying covers, the band was invited to perform for the Spring Festival (often dubbed the Chinese Christmas) special show on television.Since 2006, the band has been performing from Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia to Jilin, China wowing crowds with covers from the Beatles and Elvis Presley classics to more contemporary songs from Usher and the Black Eyed Peas. The band’s repertoire depends on what the audience likes. As Jilin closely borders North Korea, they need to know a few Korean songs.

For its Yanbian TV performance, the band chose a popular Korean song to usher in the celebration of the Spring Festival. So far, Seven Days has been warmly received by the Chinese and Korean communities, not to mention its supportive Filipino fans.“As far as I know, there are only two kinds of Filipinos here [in Jilin City], those who work as entertainers, and the teachers," explained Onnie.

The band has also done much to spark interest among the otherwise oblivious Chinese in Jilin City about the Philippines that has been known for its excellent English teachers.

“We talked to a lot of people here who initially didn’t even have the slightest idea where the Philippines is. But when they saw us on TV, they went as far as searching for our country in the Internet, looking for pictures. They are now more interested in us."And what do they miss the most about the Philippines? “Eat Bulaga! We promise to watch our favorites, ‘Bossing’ (Vic Sotto) and Joey de Leon, in the studio when we come home," Onnie said

Kay Trinidad in 'Little Mermaid'

Written by Ms. Confuse on Sunday, April 20, 2008

NEW YORK - At 23, Kay Trinidad is at the season where life seems auspiciously uncomplicated and everything glides smoothly like walking on heelys.
The New York-born Filipina last year made her Broadway debut in “Little Mermaid," hoping to one day follow the trail of “idol" Lea Salonga.
In the Disney production, currently showing at Lunt-Fontanne, Kay is part of the song-and-dance featured ensemble, her name several lines below the stars’ and many fonts tinier.
But on stage, her presence is equally commanding and hypnotic. The fact that she is the only Asian, effortlessly warbling and dancing, makes her stand out even more.
“Such a big dream. I always knew I could do it," she told Philippine News, expressing elation. From NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts where she majored in Drama, Kay’s road to Broadway had been paved with nothing but good luck and good vibes.

There was a case of bad cold and fever for her “Little Mermaid" audition. She was on a theater tour in Indiana when told by her agent she had to fly to New York right away for the audition.

“I was sick on the plane," she recalled. “When I got to the audition, I sang my song and then two more right after. After that they asked me to dance, they gave some more musical sides to sing, more dancing on heelys." In between downing orange juice, blowing her nose and popping lozenges, she endured about five hours of audition. She was one of five talents who made the grade that day.

Two weeks later, her prayers were answered; Kay couldn’t be more ecstatic: “I screamed!" From that time on, it was a blurry succession of rehearsals, photo shoots, costume fittings, media interviews and whatever else it took to promote the musical.
There was talk of a union strike, but little did Kay know it would erupt on her first day on the Broadway stage.“It was nerve-wracking," she continued. “We didn’t know if we were performing or not."

This sense of tentativeness went on for three weeks, with Kay and other “Mermaid" cast members spending time on the picket line in solidarity with fellow equity members.
“We carried placards and stayed there, just in case (the strike is settled and we had to get on stage)," she said. “It’s a privilege. The unions are the people that protect you."
On January 10, 2007, Kay officially graced the Great White Way.

No Marcos connection

With her name, Kathleen Imelda Trinidad, you would think Kay was named after the Marcos women. "No way," she shrieked in a voice dripping with disgust. She was named after her mother Imee, and no, her mother, a lab technician, was not named after the former First Daughter.
Luis, her father, is an electrical engineer. If being good children is the workmanship of good parents, then Kay and her two sisters are fine products. Oldest sister owns a retail business, and the youngest is studying to be a doctor and a violist in equal measures of seriousness.
"My parents always believed in me. They said I could do anything. They were so excited," Kay described her folks, who raised her and her sisters on traditional Philippine values and respect for religion.

Kay was drawn to performing as a child, but made her first professional appearance in high school as Alice in Texas’ Casa Manana production of “Bye, Bye Birdie."
She would never forget the first time she performed before a real live audience not limited to her immediate family.
Although the Trinidads first lived in Long Island in New York, the girls were raised in California and Texas or wherever the father’s job took them.
Kay went back to New York for college while another family move to Arizona was made.In Broadway, Kay belongs to a tight-knit community of Asian actors, writers, directors, dancers, stagehands, whom she sees occasionally during auditions, but especially on ethnic calls.

“It’s very small. We say ‘hi’ to each other. There are some Filipinos; we don’t hang out, but being around each other brings a sense of home. There’s that connection and closeness, even if you just met," she said. “We’re very supportive of each other."
While playing the lead Ariel in “Little Mermaid" is something to aspire for, Kay believes that may take some doing, and breaking the glass ceiling has nothing to do with.

“Vocally, I could definitely do it and I’d love to do it. But the reality right now is that children are used to seeing Ariel as this red-haired, white girl…," she theorized, although she noted that Toni Braxton had portrayed Belle in “Beauty and the Beast."
With her looks – more North Asian than Malay – Kay has taken on many different ethnic roles including a Chinese girl, a Korean and also a Spanish.

“That’s fine with me, I’m not offended. I get more work that way," she said, brushing aside reservations raised by purists that Filipino actors should play ethnic roles they represent.
She would like to play Kim in “Miss Saigon," if the opportunity presented itself. She is looking to do some commercials and television.
“I would love to see myself performing in principal roles. I can see that happening sooner than later," she said confidently.
Performing is an “amazing" way to earn a living, said Kay, declaring that in the next 10 years “I see myself married – with family – and still performing."

Jose Antonio Vargas: Pulitzer Prize winner

Written by Ms. Confuse on Friday, April 18, 2008

A very young and Internet savvy Filipino American, Jose Antonio Vargas has at 27, won the Pulitzer Prize in the breaking news category.

He shares this award with other Washington Post reporters for a package of nine stories, two of which he wrote. His feet hardly touched the ground as he was interviewed at the Washington Post a couple of hours after the awards were announced in this US capital Monday.

An elated Vargas said, “This is great!" and “This is a happy day!" He was also happy for the paper, saying the ‘Post’ “won six Pulitzers, the most it has won in one year." Vargas wrote two front page stories on the April 16, 2007 Virginia Tech massacre.

“I was lucky to get an interview with one of the eyewitnesses," he recalled. “I found this eyewitness on facebook.com. I got him on the phone, we talked for about 25 minutes, and he was the only eyewitness we had on the story, so it was a critical part of it."

Another story he wore was on how the Virginia Tech students were using the Internet “to let each other know what was going on, because it was chaotic" at that time. He said he got the news over the phone Sunday from his editor, but he was not supposed to tell anybody at that point.

Vargas joined the Post in 2004, two days after graduating from the San Francisco State University in California. He had interned at the paper in 2003 while still a student. He was asked to write for the Style Section at first, and he wrote about Cristeta Comerford, the first woman and first FilAm White House executive chef.

He said he was proud he won the Pulitzer as part of the team from ‘Post,’ the paper that “had toppled a president."

“This is a paper that has always been about reporting and writing, and letting reporters be who they are" and allowing reporters to follow their interests. “I’ve been here three years, and I’ve written about video games, HIV needs in Washington, and now, political reporting."

He turned very emotional when he talked about relatives who raised him. He thanked his Lola Leoning, Leonila Salinas, who brought him up in Mountain View, California, together with her husband Ted, and his Uncle Roland. Vargas, born in Antipolo, came to the U.S. when he was 12.

When his grandpa died, he said his Lola Leoning was very worried about him, and wanted him only the best for him.

“I love her very, very, very much," he said of his grandma. ‘ I wish she could understand what this means. She wanted me to be an accountant, an engineer or a doctor, something like that."

“Now that I’m covering the presidential campaign, and appearing on CNN and MSNBC, she thinks I’m a real reporter," he added.

He also cited the principal and superintendent at Mountain View High School, “who were like second parents to me." They helped him get a scholarship from a venture capitalist who financed his college studies.

He said nobody wins an award by himself, and also credited his mentors, including Leslie Guevarra at San Francisco Chronicle, where he also worked after writing for the ‘Mountain View Voice.’ Vargas, stood behind the mural that showed photos of the team that toppled President Richard Nixon over Watergate – the legendary editor Ben Bradlee and reporters Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward.

Families of winners were seen going to the party upstairs. Vargas is single, and still only 27. Community leader Maurese Owens said, when told of the news during an event here the same day: “Now that he has won the Pulitzer, I wonder how it’s going to be for him."

Vargas will always have a reason for getting up in the morning, gobbling breakfast and bolting excitedly the door. “This has always been a passion of mine, since I started writing at 17," he said, beaming.

living passges

Written by Ms. Confuse on Friday, April 18, 2008

ive been to Christian Cruise before and it was really fantastic! before im just seeing Christian Cruises in Tv but its really different. speaking of schritian let me share with you something. Most Christians believe that the Bible was written by holy men, writing stories and teachings that were inspired by the Holy Spirit. Some believe God dictated the exact words. Still, some think that unless one reads a certain version of the Bible, one cannot understand exactly what God is saying.

I think it is important to remember that the Bible was written by men. These men wrote what they believed people needed to hear. In the Old Testament, Moses is said to have written the first five books. These books laid the foundation for the Jewish religion. These include the story of creation, the fall of man, the law of God, and the beginning of the redemption of God's people.

Of course, in the Old Testament, we also have poetry, songs, wise sayings, stories of war, and of romance. We also have the important stories of the prophets and their declarations of God's judgement, mercy, and redemption.

In the New Testament, we have something entirely different. For the most part, we have a collection of letters, most are said to have been written by influential leaders to friends and groups of believers around the world. We also have four books in the New Testament, called the Gospels, which tell the story of Jesus, and his life on earth. We end the NT with one book of prophecy about events that happened shortly after they were written, some that happened later, and some that may have yet to occur.

The one common thread that holds all these individual writings together is the writers faith in God, and his desire to tell what he believes to be essential truths about God and His dealings with mankind.

What makes these writings different is each writer has his own personality, his own attitude, his own mission in life. We see these differences in the writing style, and the content of the writings.

Is it the Word of God? If you mean "Is it the truth?", I would say "Yes!" If you were to ask if it has been perfectly preserved through thousands of years, hundreds of translations, dozens of major religious revolutions, and I would have to say "Probably not."

But, it can be trusted. The Bible tells an important story. Although our names will never be written within the pages of this book, we are part of this story. It is where we can find our beginning, and our end.

Much of what is said in the Bible is symbolic, some is the handing down of long held family tradition. Our Bible is a living, breathing, continuing story. It is a geneology of history, a story of mankind, and a hope for a better future.

Do we believe in the Bible? If so, how do we react to it's writings? Do we continue the rich legacy of those who have been transformed by it's words? How will we become part of the story? How will tell the story? How will we conform our lives around the story?

That is the rest of the story. you can experience Christian Cruises in livingpassages.org

Charmaine Clamor

Written by Ms. Confuse on Thursday, April 17, 2008

Charmaine Clamor is the first Filipina jazz singer to find success on American radio, achieving the rare feat of simultaneously making the top-5 on both JazzWeek’s World (#2 ranking) and Traditional Jazz (#4) charts.

Charmaine Clamor is a jazz vocalist who grew up listening to Ella Fitzgerald on the radio, which shouldn't be surprising. What may be surprising is that Clamor grew up in the Philippines — as a 3-year-old, she sang to passengers on the bus in Manila. Clamor is now a star in her homeland and she's attracting attention in the United States.

Her second CD, Flippin' Out, introduces a hybrid sound, which she calls "jazzipino." Clamor spoke with Liane Hansen about her distinct sound and offered her definition.

"Jazzipino is the new musical genre that results from melding traditional Filipino melodies, languages and instruments with the soul and swing of American jazz," she says.

As a child, Clamor was exposed to Western classical and jazz, as well as traditional Filipino music. She was especially influenced by the kundiman, the Filipino love-song style.

On Flippin' Out, she sings a particularly beloved kundiman called "Dahil Sa'Yo." Clamor's rendition — sung in Tagalog — has something of an ideological edge to it, though. She says that the tune used to be a favorite of the loathed Marcos dictatorship.

"So when I redid this song, I'm hoping if we swing it enough, Liane, that we could rob it from the old ghost of the Marcoses and bring it back to the people where it belongs," Clamor says.

It isn't the only song Clamor flips for her own purposes. She begins the album with an interpolation of Richard Rogers' standard "My Funny Valentine," which she retitles "My Funny Brown Pinay." Pinay is a term for a Filipino woman.

"Since our country was conquered by the Spanish for many, many years, the Filipinos, the native ones, lost pride in their indigenous beauty," Clamor says. "And 'My Funny Brown Pinay' celebrates the unique attributes of an indigenous Filipino woman: someone who has flat nose, black hair, dark skin, brown skin. And this is what I'm trying to communicate to my Pinay sisters."

It is a cause Clamor relates to personally. "When I was growing up in the Philippines, I remember using every type of cream, every type of papaya soap — because we believed that papaya soap lightens the skin — and I used it to hopefully wake up the next day and be fair-skinned," she says.

Her music isn't all political, however. Clamor closes the album with one of her childhood favorites, "Be My Love," rendered partially in Tagalog and dedicated to her mother.

"Whenever I hear Mario Lanza or 'Be My Love' being sung, it just reminds me of my mother and my father, my beautiful childhood when I was growing up in the Philippines," Clamor says.

An Art made of Coffee

Written by Ms. Confuse on Sunday, April 13, 2008

This video is Tagalog version

Here's a wake-up call for budding artists who think they can't afford the high cost of painting materials. Dip your brush in coffee and use that to paint on paper.

That's what 28-year-old Sunshine Plata did – and found a cheap medium that handles just like watercolors, except that her hues would be limited to shades and tints of brown. The resulting works, however, have the charm of sepia photographs.

"Just because you don't have money doesn't mean you can't paint," Plata told Ian Cruz, whose report was aired on Thursday over 24 Oras, GMA Network's early evening newscast.

Even as a child, Plata has always loved to art. When she got to high school she started painting – using traditional oil on canvas. It was hobby she indulged in even when she got to college.

But she didn't go on to a fine arts course. Instead, she took up psychology at the University of Santo Tomas, because her grandfather had been urging her to go on and take up medicine.

It was at this point that she discovered that she could do more than drink her coffee. In the kitchen one day, she thought: "Maybe I can use coffee to paint."

For her first coffee painting, she did the exterior of her own alma mater, from which she eventually graduated and went on to teaching.

But her painting took up more and more of her attention that last year she decided to quit teaching. It was also last year that two of her works caught the attention of Ripley's Believe It or Not, whose people were impressed enough to buy them for $2,500 (a little over P100,000).

According to GMA's Cruz, some of Plata's paintings are on display, along with other art works, in Times Square in New York City.

Actually, Plata, without realizing it, has discovered something that other artists – like Amita and Mira Chudasama of India – have already been using as a medium.

In fact, the art world has taken to calling coffee painting as arfe – a portmanteau of art and coffee.

It's a case of drinking your coffee and painting with it too.

Plata's parents are naturally pleased at their her success.

"I'm so amazed really that through such a simple thing as coffee something great happened," her father Reynaldo said.

"She was very sensible enough that instead of asking (for money for other materials), she discovered another medium," her mother Sosie said.

cat5e

Written by Ms. Confuse on Sunday, April 13, 2008

Would is a female coupler work for connecting two CAT5e ethernet cables? Yes, you should be able to join two CAT5e cables with a female coupler. How to know if you need male or female? Think literally. The male end has the 'plug' and the female has the 'socket' into which the male plugs. Another way to think about it: Male has a plug, and female has the hole. That applies to anything electronic (stereos, video cables, networking, you name it).. So if you have two male ends that you need to connect, you put a female coupler (has two female sides) between them....

Side note: couplers are also refered to as 'gender-benders' because when you plug a wire into one side of it, that wire changes its 'gender.'

suit of armor

Written by Ms. Confuse on Sunday, April 13, 2008

When did the suit of armor become obsolete? The suit of armor became obsolete during the French-English war and after the Battle of Crécy (1346) in particular.

The knights with the suit of armor were in fact a sort of medieval tanks. During the Battle of Crécy the English however abandonded all pretence of a war of chivalry and instead of making their knights attack the french knights they instead attacked the French horses. The French knights fell over and because of the enormous weight of their armors they were lying on the ground helplessly and unable to get up or move. This allowed the English soldiers to kill them. The English, although greatly outnumbered in this battle beat the French. After using the same tactics during later battles the armored Knight became part of the history books.

your goals

Written by Ms. Confuse on Sunday, April 13, 2008

cheap term life insurance Your financial future 4will bring lots of changes and challenges. Insurance covers the expensive unexpected events and can make up for a lack of savings.

Without knowing more about your individual situation (income, savings, total debts, expenses, and most importantly YOUR GOALS), no one can tell you what is the best insurance for you.

Do you plan to stay in your current house until you die or will you trade up several times? Will your income grow? Will your savings grow? Do you have any risky hobbies (skydiving) or a risky job (demolition expert)?

What will your savings be at each point in your life?

I suggest that you meet with a professional planner and map out a strategy for your life - a financial game plan. This will include not only insurance (life AND disability) but also a savings strategy (how much of each paycheck can you save and how to invest those savings). Plan on reviewing this game plan regularly (NFL coaches review their plans and make adjustments at halftime).

Keep in mind that you CAN own multiple policies.

Good Luck and thanks for planning ahead.

FilAm Teen to Represent RP Swimming in Beijing 2008

Written by Ms. Confuse on Saturday, April 12, 2008

A 17-year-old Filipina American who is a current Hawaii State swimming champion has qualified for the 100-meter freestyle event of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing and is representing the Philippines. Christel Simms, who has been a competitive swimmer for 9 years, has broken 54 individual Hawaii State records. Her record is 57.12-seconds time for the 100-meter freestyle heat and 26.38-second time for the 50-meter freestyle both passed the USA Olympic trial cut.

Simms became under a member of the USA National Junior Swimming Team in 2007 and finished at 57.17 seconds at the championships last August in Indianapolis. Since then she caught the attention of many national and international swimming organizations, among them the Philippine Amateur Swimming Association (PASA).

"Simms will definitely help Philippines on the map for swimming. She's an incredibly talented athlete who we're sure will represent our country very well in the 100-meter freestyle event at Beijing," said PASA president Mark Joseph. "We've had our eye on Christel for almost two years; she's a hot commodity in the U.S. and we're extremely glad she's chosen to take this route and be a Republic of the Philippines representative in the 2008 Olympics Games."

Although USA Swimming, the national governing body for the sport , has replaced Simms as its potential entry to represent the US for the 2012 London Olympic Games, Simms chose to take the opportunity to compete in this quadrennial event even earlier, carrying the Philippine flag.

Simms was raised in the United States but her parents, Charles and jocelyn, made sure to immerse her and her younger brother in their Filipino culture. "My daugther is Filipino and will swim for the Philippines," said mother Jocelyn. "Her uncle was a Filipino national tennis champion so our link to Philippine sports is solid."

The first woman to be part of the Philippine swim team for the Beijing Olympics, Simms joins miguel Molina, Ryan Arabejo, Daniel Coakley and James Walsh, the four "Golden Boys" of the 24th Southeast Asian Games (held in Thailand last December). The four male swimmers are also from US.

With less than six months to go till the Olympics, Simms is currently under going additional hours of training on top of her usual schedule of 18 to 24 hours a week. According to Joseph, the good ties between PASA and USA Swimming asured that "Christel will continue to have the best traning in the world."

Simms is only the seventh Filipina to compete in the Olympics since the Philippines first participated in the Paris 1924 games. The other who have represented the country were Nancy Deano (1976 Motreal), Christine Jacob (1984 Los Angeles), Akiko Thompson (1988 Seoul and 1996 Atlanta), Marie-Liza Danila and Jenny Rose Guerrero (2000 Sydney), Jacklyn Pangilinan (2004 Athens).

Dennis Orcollo rules Japan 9-Ball Open

Written by Ms. Confuse on Friday, April 11, 2008

Dennis Orcollo continued his hot streak as the reigning world no.1 bested more than 200 cue artist from around the world to win the 2008 Japan 9-Ball Open late March 30,2008 in Tokyo. It was Orcollo's second straight title conquest in a span of one week. He had earlier ruled the San Miguel Beer-Quezon City 9Ball Championship March 26,2008 before traveling to the Japanese capital reign in one of the most anticipated tournaments in the billiards calendar.

The 29-year-old stalwart of the star-studded Bugsy Promotions of businessman Perry Mariano murdered veteran Japanese pro player Ryoji Aoki, 9-2, in the finals to bag the title and the two million yen top purse in this two-day competition.

"I'm very happy to win two major tournaments in just one week. I hope that I could sustain this performance," said Orcollo, who also trounced stablemate and former Ronnie Alcano, 9-3, in the semifinals. "my goal is to become a world champion, and I've been working hard for that," he added.

After rallying from 3-1 deficit beat Alcano in the Final Four, Orcollo, whose campaign was also supported by the Billiard Managers and Players Association of the Philippines (BMPAP), waxed even hotter in the title-pocketed the first seven racks to coast to an easy triumph.

"Dennis is really one of the best pool players in the world today, and his winning two big tournaments just a couple of days apart more than justified his status as the current world's top-ranked player," said Mariano.

Orcollo's next stop would be the second leg of the Guinness Asian Tour slated April 2 to 4 in Penang, Malaysia. He will then make his first shot at becoming a world titlist in the 2008 World 8-Ball Championship on April 18 to 25 in Fujairah, United Arab Emirates, where he is seeded for being the runner-up to Alcano last year.

Almost a dozen other Filipino players competed in the Japan 9-Ball Open. After Orcollo and Alcano, the next best finisher was Japan-based veteran internationalist Roel Esquillo, who made it to the quarterfinals.

Former Southeast Asian Games gold medalist Warren Kiamco of Jonathan Sy's Negros Billiards Stable went as far as the Last 16, while defending champion Alex Pagulayan was eliminated in the Round-of-32, along with compatriots Joven Bustamante, Roberto Gomez and Lee Van Corteza. Gandy Valle, Antonio lining and Ramil Gallego were booted out in the Last 64, while Dondon Razalan and Jharome Pena exited in the earlier round.

Filipino still world's 3rd largest remitters - WB

Written by Ms. Confuse on Thursday, April 10, 2008

The Philippines remains the third largest recipient of remittances in the world, next to India and Mexico, according to a World Bank report. In its latest Migration and Remittances Factbook 2008, the Washinton-based lender said the top four recipients of migrant remittances in 2007 were India ($27 billion), Mexico ($25 billion), Philippines (17 billion); and Frances ($12.5 billion).

"The united States was also the top immigration country in 2005, with 38.4 million immigrants, followed by Russian Federation (12.1 million), and Germany (10.1 million)," the World Bank said.

Among lowincome countries, India had the highest immigration volume (5.7 million), followed by Pakistan (3.3 million). The report provides snapshots of statistic on immigration, recorded remittance flows, and skilled emigration for 194 countries and 13 regional and income groups.

For 2007, recorded remittances flows worldwide are estimated at $318billion, of which $240billion went to development countries. These flows do not include informal channels, which would significantly enlarge the volume of remittances if they were recorded.

"In many developing countries, remittances provide a life line for the poor" said Dilip rathe, senior economist, and author of the factbook with zhimei Xu. They are often an essential source of foreign exchange and a stabilizing force for the economy in tribulent times."

Rich countries are the main source of remittances. The United States is by far the largest, with $42 billion in recorded outward flows in 2006. Saudi Arabia ranks as the second largest, followed by Switzerland and Germany

'The best herbs in the world are found in the Philippines

Written by Ms. Confuse on Wednesday, April 09, 2008

The success of the company founded by retired multinational corporation executive Ramon tan is due to one undeniable fatc, he says. In terms of sheer variety and efficacy, Philippine herbs are the best in the world. Consider that the Philippines lies near the equator, with fertile volcanic soil and plenty of wind, rain and sunshine.

One of richest sources of herbal medicine is something that Filipinos take for granted, the coconut tree. Growing all over the country , it has often been called the "tree of life.""Nothing",he says, "beat the coconut virgin oil" in delivering good health to those who take it regularly.

Flowers, roots, crops, and all sorts of plants parts mean the Philippines has more than 5,000 possible herbal products which serve as remedies to just about any ailment besetting modern man. Philippines fruits are also the rrichest in the world in terms of vitamins, anti-oxidant and other nutrients. Local noni juice is not miraculous, he adds, but is most certainly effective for numerous types of aches and pains. And because the country is no stranger to lightning storms, Tan feels that even rarest and most expensive type of mushroom - the ruffle - is likely to be found in forest areas.

Tan says that the nutritious herbs, plants, fruits and crops found in the remaining Philppinr forests are a veritable cornucopia of wonder medications. "In hospitals, the oxygen is stable and virus and fungal levels are high," he says, "the oxygen level is higher in the forest."

Carica Herbal Health Products, Inc. has tested and produced a wide variety of nature's medicine and has come up with likes of lauric acid from virgin coconut oil; enzymes from wild green papaya; xanthone from mangosteen; proxeronina from wild noni; and anthocyanine from topical forest berries.

The list goes on and on. Now covering 300 plants. Among Carica's herbal teas are anona, ampalaya, banaba, bayabas, coconut, co-enzyme Q-10, green, lemon grass, lagundi, mangosteen, papaya flower, sambong, tsaang gubat, and pito-pito. Among Carica's energy drinks are calamansi, dalandan, lacto-bacillus and mangosteen. And the company's dietary aids are slim 7, fruit fiber, and candies made of carica, papaya ginger, herbalberry and noni.

Tan's company even has a variety of soaps for different skin characteristics and herbal cigarettes to help one quit smoking. Tan is a one-man research and development department. He says he will never stop searching for every possible herbal remedy that the Philippines has. Ha may, he adds, slow down when he reaches the age of 100. But for now, the search continues.

David Diaz Wants Pacquiao

Written by Ms. Confuse on Tuesday, April 08, 2008

Chicago-based David Diaz has had enough of the talks about another Pacquiao-Marquez rematch. In an interview on Tuesday, March 25th, Diaz broke his silence. "Its now my turn to face Pacquiao. Marquez had all his opportunities to put away Pacquiao during the last fight but failed," he said.

He added that the decision of the fight could have gone either way. Diaz is a WBC lightweight champion who was born in Chicago from Mexican immigrant parents. He fought in the undercard match of the Pacquiao-Marquez fight dubbed the "Unfinished Business" in Las Vegas, Nevada. Marquez lost to Manny Pacquiao via narrow split decision.

"Up to the 10th round, my score card was almost even. I give Manny Pacquiao the edge in the 10th and 11th rounds. Although, Margquez won 12th and last round, it was not a big round to overcome Manny's edge," Diaz said. "Manny won the fight."

Diaz is alted to fight Pacquiao on June 8 in Las Vegas "if Manny's cut has healed enough." "[Ours] will be a great fight," Diaz assured. "I want to make the Filipino boxing fans happy. I just hope I can beat Manny and end his long streak of beating Mexican boxers," according to Diaz.

Diaz who earned $50,000 in the undercard fight after winning the majority decision over Ramon Montano, has been dreaming to collect a big paycheck if he can face Pacquiao who earned $5M. "It was very clear Marquez lost. Just watch the replay of the bout," Diaz suggested. "Marquez should stop winning," He said Marquez' plan to face Pacquiao should no longer be discussed.

Diaz (34-1-1, 17 KOs) dominated much of the action on his second defense since winning the interin title with a 10th-round knockout of Jose Armando Santa Cruz in August 2006 in /mandalay Bay. A 1996 US Olympian who quit boxing a few years afterwards, Diaz couldn;t seriously hurt Montano, a light puncher with no big names on his resume.

Two judges favored Diaz, while another scored bout 95-95. "I felt sloppy [that night]. I was trying too hard for knockout," Diaz was quoted as saying. "It wasn't my best performance, but the 10 rounds of hard work were really good."

Diaz and Pacquiao, are expected to meet at Mandalay Bay in June 28, when Pacquiao moves up to 135 pounds. Pacquiao hopes tht fight will set up a unification bout with three belt champion Nate Campbell in Macau later in the year.

Abigail "Red Oyster" Kintanar

Written by Ms. Confuse on Monday, April 07, 2008

Do you watched "Flava of Love Season 1"? Do you remember her? If you did, yes, she's "Red Oyster" named given by Flave (Rapper, actor).

Abigail Kintanar's humble beginnings can be traced back to April 2005 when PAX-TV cast her to star in her own episode for their reality series "Xtreme Fakeovers." This not only marked Abigail "Gail" Kintanar's debut on cable television, but the network featured her to play the lead role in her own reality episode titled "Star Discovery."

By June 2005, she lands her second reality show when Discovery Health cast her to star in her own episode "Gail and Mark" for the reality series "Love on the Rocks."

Abigail Kintanar is now famously known for her roles as CelebReality Star "Red Oyster" of VH1's "Flavor of Love" and as a "Charm School" Alternate. She reprises her role as "Red Oyster" in several network television cameo appearances - "VH1's Big in '06 Awards," "Flavor of Love" (The Reunion), "Flavor of Love" (Season 2), NBC's "Identity," FUSE TV's "Pants-Off, Dance-Off" and even Red Oyster's most memorable and shocking moment (when she bowed out of the competition in the middle of the elimination ceremony) was a highlight on E!'s "Talk Soup" during the host's recap of the show's first shocking twist (no one knew Red Oyster would voluntarily eliminate herself from "Flavor of Love" in episode 5).

She solidified her "Reality Show Star" status by appearing on "Details Magazine" for their "Reality Stars" Issue, "Life & Style" Magazine and makes headline news on "The Signal" when the "Lifestyles Section" dedicated the front page of their February Valentines Day Edition in honor of Abigail's obsession for the color red and attempt to set a world record with Guinness by wearing red everyday for 8 years to date.

Dubbed as the "Most Infamous Filipina on Reality TV" with her own reality episode, "All About Abby" on TFC's "Pinagmulan: The Journey Home," Abigail Kintanar solidified her controversially-clad CelebReality Vixen status on TFC's "Speak-Out" and joins the elite class of Filipino-American Celebrities, ranking #2 with them on "Balitang America's" List of "2006's Biggest Newsmakers."

While Abigail Kintanar is a mainstay Model for Vance McDaniel's True Image Concepts website, she has tried her hand in all aspects of the entertainment industry. She hosted the Love4Leyte Benefit Concert @ The Grove in Anaheim working alongside Apl.de.Ap of the Black Eyed Peas, The Basco Bros. (Dante Basco, Dion Basco, Darion Basco and Derek Basco), Fil-Am Comedian JoKoy, DJ Rocky Rock, Hyphy Performer Nump, etc. She was also the host of the US Theatrical Movie Premiere of 'Wag Kang Lilingon and introduced the likes of Philippine-based stars Anne Curtis and Kristine Hermosa.

Kintanar was briefly featured on Fox 11 News, NBC's "Joey," "Las Vegas," and "West Wing," Showtime's "Huff," UPN's "Half & Half," TLC's "Untold Stories of the ER," FOX's "The Inside," CBS's "The Unit," MTV's "Wild 'N Out" and if you look real closely, you'll catch her wearing yet another red outfit in Lindsay Lohan's music video "First."

She also had the wonderful opportunity to work with Director James Olmos on HBO's made-for-tv film "Walk-Out," and Susan Lucci for the "Youthful Essence" Infomercial. You might even catch her as she appears in "Disney Secrets Revealed" showcased in Disney Parks around the world!

Kintanar graduated Cum Laude from California State University, Bakersfield with a BA in Communications, Mass Media, Law and Film. She graduated from College of the Canyons with an AA Media in Media Arts and Majored in Radio/Television/Video/Film. Therefore, because she has two degrees under her belt, she is quick to confirm the fact that she IS also a shrewd, cunning and unscrupulous Machiavellian breezy who is capable of outwitting even the most highfalutin swain.

Commonly known as nikky and was bestowed the nickname billyboxergirl by her close peers. Age is a myth for time knows no boundaries. Being the proud mommy she is, she wastes her days away trying to perfect the art of human anatomy.
